Recently,Cu-I hybrid clusters received great concerns since their excellent luminescent properties.Copper and iodine are non-toxic and abundant elements in comparison to noble metals, which make them particularly attractive for industrial applications. In this paper,we first introduced the structure types and luminescent properties of the Cu-I hybrid clusters. Then the main application trends and development prospects of such materials in the world were summarized according to recent reports. The main problems were pointed out and we proposed some possible solutions. This project aims to develop simple methods for preparing a series of high luminescent nanoparticles based on Cu-I hybrid clusters, and expand the application of these materials in the optoelectronic field. The main works were listed as follows:1.We developed a method to fabricate highly luminescent AIE nanoparticles via microemulsion confined assembly process of single Cu-I hybrid cluster.First,a novel hybrid cluster Cu4I4(P-(m-Tol)3)4 with high solubility was synthesized, which was a good precursor to fabricate oil-in-water microemulsion particles.By conducting a fast evaporation process of organic solvent,we can achieve the aggregation of Cu4I4(P-(m-Tol)3)4 hybrid clusters, forming the highly luminescent AIE nanoparticles.Furthermore, through a facile ligand exchange process,we can synthesize a series of Cu-I hybrid clusters based luminescent nanoparticles with different light-emission colors covering the whole visible spectrum range.Moreover,as-fabricated luminescent AIE nanoparticles are highly water-dispersible to yield highly luminescent inks.2.A method for preparing polymer composite nanoparticles based on copper iodine hybrid clusters has been developed. The Cu4I6(pr-ted)2 cluster with strong luminescence and high stability was selected to prepare corresponding nanoparticles.First, the polymer micelle was introduced to stabilize and disperse the Cu-I inorganic unit. When the ligand was added, the coordination process was still limited in the long chain of the polymer, thereby inhibiting the aggregation and growth process of the clusters.As-fabricated Cu4I4(pr-ted)2 polymer composite nanoparticles have strong luminescence and the quantum yield achieve nearly 100%.Furthermore,luminescent films with high transmittance were prepared based on the polymer composite nanoparticles, which shows good prospects in the application of luminescent solar concentrators.
