The operation period of diesel hydrogenation unit is more than 3 years even to 5 years. The cost of catalysts is very high because of the requirement of its stability. At present, domestic diesel hydrogenation catalysts are mostly imported.DuPont process and catalyst are used in the diesel hydrogenation plant of one petrochemical corporation. To reduce and save the operating cost,a diesel hydrogenation pilot is setup to evaluate the novel self-developed catalysts in the petrochemical research and development institution. In this work, the preparation, characterization and evaluation for the diesel hydrogenation catalysts are investigated. In addition, the commercial catalysts of Dupont are used as referenced catalysts.Firstly,we developed the supported catalyst of MoO3-NiO-P2O5/Al2O3 using different methods.Different support materials such as ?-Al2O3 and ?-Al2O3 are considered. Then, different preparation methods and different additives were investigated to obtain various catalysts.Thirdly, different methods of characterization are used for the pore size distribution and microstructure of the self-developed catalysts.By continuously trial, the self-developed catalysts have the equivalent properties such as pore size distribution, microstructure, and specific surface area with the referenced catalysts. Finally, the self-developed catalysts are evaluated in the pilot.A total of 28 evaluations were performed and the data were analyzed.Furthermore, the desulfurization rate was calculated, and the performance of the catalysts was optimized.
