Radioactive iodine would cause a serious hazard to human health as their high toxicity and mobility in the environment.Iodate is one of the major species of iodine in the environment and an impoitant by-product of industrial disinfection. It is also recommended as an additive to salt for correcting iodine deficiency. From the perspectives of public health and environmental protection, removing IO3- from aqueous solutions is of significant importance.Al2O3 Is a popular sorption material.Metal coating of Al2O3 could improve its sorption ability for some specific pollutants.Copper was coated on the large particle Al2O3.The sorption of IO3- by Cu-Al2O3,Fe-Al2O3 and Al2O3 needs 70 hours to reach the sorption equilibrium with a Kd of 102,92 and 38 mL/g respectively. The sorption kinetics follows the pseudosecond-order model. The Kd decreases while the initial concentration of IO3-increases from 5 to 120 ppm.The isotherm Is well described by the Freundlich model. When temperature increases, the Kd decreases,so the sorption process is a nonspontaneous and endothermic reaction.Under acid conditions, the sorption of IO3- is improved. The maximum Kd in this work is 102,92 and 38 mL/g respectively.Cu-Al2O3 Could be used to separate IO3- pollution in the solution for its best sorption ability and convenience of separation.
