In this paper,based on the unstable emulsifying property of Acacia seyal gum,octenyl succinic anhydride was used as a modifier,treated with emulsifier instead of organic solvent.Then it was applied to the esterification of original Arabic gum,and completed the extraction,purification,and esterification in one step.Synthesis,characterization of structure,properties and factory design with an annual output of200 tons of octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester were studied.What is more,corresponding plant design drawings were drawn.(1)The esterification process of the original Arabic gum was investigated by one-factor-at-a-time and response surface experiments.The optimal modified condition were set as follows:octenyl succinic anhydride,3.0%(based on the final weight of original Arabic gum);concentration of the original Arabic gum,40%;reaction system pH,8.5;reaction time,1.56 h;and reaction temperature,23°C.Under this condition,the graft of the OS in the octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester was 1.97%.(2)The structural characterization of octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester were determined.FTIR showed the octenyl succinate anhydride were linked to the Arabic gum molecular as an ester bond.~1H-NMR revealed that octenyl succinic anhydride groups possibly substituted galactose of Arabic gum molecular.Molecular weight analyzer showed the molecular weight of octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester increased,and the crystallinity demonstrated no significant difference after esterification by X-ray diffractograms.Meanwhile,the microscopic structure of octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester was analyzed by environmental scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscope.It was observed that its surface was smooth and well dispersed.(3)The properties of Arabic gum and octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester were studied.The results showed that the thermal stability and solubility of Arabic gum decreased after esterification.The esterification had no significant effect on the rheological behavior of Arabic gum.And the apparent viscosity and emulsion stability were improved after esterification.Comparison the lab-made octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester and commercial octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester,the results showed that there was no significant difference in the thermal stability between them.Although the solubility of homemade products is lower than that of similar products on the market,it also reached 92%.The two octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum esters showed good emulsifying properties and there was no significant difference between them.(4)The annual production of 200 tons octenyl succinic acid-Arabic gum ester product factory design,and determined the production plan of the products.The annual demand for original Arabic gum 241.71 t,octenyl succinic anhydride 6.53 t.The analysis of the economic benefits shows that the total annual sales is 9 million yuan,and the net profit is 1.8478 million yuan,and the annual rate of profit is 20.53%.
