Direct Carbon Solid Oxide Fuel Cell?DC-SOFC?is a solid oxide fuel cell?SOFC?that is directly solid carbon fueled.It has an all-solid-state structure,high energy density,and does not require any medium or fuel range.This paper focuses on the effective coupling of the electrochemical oxidation reaction on the anode side of DC-SOFC with the Boudouard reaction on carbon fuel.The reaction rate of Boudouard reaction is improved in different ways to achieve efficient and stable operation of DC-SOFC.First,the effect of the type of Boudouard reaction catalyst and the amount of support on the performance of the battery was investigated.By studying the electrochemical performance of DC-SOFCs with different Ba loadings as activated carbon,the effects of Ba loading on battery stability and fuel utilization were clarified.The electrolyte-supported cell Ag-GDC/YSZ/Ag-GDC was prepared.When the activated carbon fuel was loaded with 5 wt.%Ba.The optimal electrochemical performance of DC-SOFC at 850?C was obtained.The maximum power density was 328.4 mW cm-2,stable discharge at a constant current density of 0.25 A cm-2 for 28.76 h,and fuel utilization rate of 16.0%.Secondly,the effects of different biomass carbon fuels on the electrochemical performance of DC-SOFC were investigated.The three biomasses of melon seed,peanut shell and soybean straw were carbonized at 800?C for 2 h under nitrogen atmosphere.The carbonized biomass carbon and the electrolyte-supported cell Ag-GDC/YSZ/Ag-GDC were assembled to obtain DC-SOFCs.Electrochemical performance test results show that the electrochemical performance of DC-SOFCs using the above three biomass carbon fuels is better than that of activated carbon-based DC-SOFC.Among them,DC-SOFC with melon seed shell biomass carbon has the best performance,the maximum power density at 850?C is 296.61 mW cm-2,and it runs stably at a constant current density of 0.25 A cm-2 for 41.63 h,Fuel utilization rate is 15.46%.Biomass carbon fuels were characterized by SEM,EDX,Raman and TG.It was found that the electrochemical properties were closely related to the microstructure of biomass carbon,the presence of carbon and the composition and distribution of elements.The research work of this is improves the electrochemical performance of DC-SOFC and reduces the cost of DC-SOFC,which provides theoretical basis and technical support for the industrialization process of DC-SOFC.
