The birth and development of Shanghai style furniture is not only an indelible chapter in the history of furniture,but also a precious intangible cultural asset.It not only enriches the history of Chinese furniture development,but also enables people to feel the collision between eastern and western civilizations in daily life and experience the beauty of humanity in western culture.The design style of Shanghai style furniture has dignified atmosphere of Oriental culture,and beauty of humanity in western culture.The production techniques combine the essence of China and the west at that time.For over a hundred years,with the change of society and market demand,the Shanghai style furniture could show a new look,after numerous heritages,innovation and development.As a result,Shanghai style furniture,with its unique charm of long history and rich tradition,was still very popular after so many changes.It became a dazzling pearl adding luster for Chinese furniture development history.Additionally,as a furniture style which has existed for a hundred years,the development of Shanghai style furniture has not been interrupted,but also continued.New Shanghai style furniture had been born.The spirit,which including harmony between Chinese and western culture,in its blood could inherit the essence of traditional Shanghai furniture.New Shanghai furniture,as the representative of excellent Chinese home culture carrier in the new era,requires to develop,innovate,and keep pace with the times to the whole world,and finally become the pride of the nation.This paper tries to find the forming elements of shanghai-style furniture through the shanghai local historical changes and the influence of Western culture.Generally,we researched the effects of the western culture on our native furniture style gradually starting from the opening of modern Shanghai.To reflect the external expression of the Shanghai-style culture,we focused on the different kinds of historical life.Indeed,the performance of the western humanism in the design of furniture was also the valuable point.Thus we found the core value of Shanghai-style culture finally.In order to get the general rules and typical characteristics in design of the traditional Shanghai-style furniture,we combined the typical case with the historical evolution of traditional Shanghai-style furniture,which was concluded by discussing the design style and the fabrication process of the Shanghai-style furniture in different stages.The innovation in this paper is we have tried the adventurous designing of new Shanghai-style furniture using the changing needing of the market and the situation of the Yazhen furniture company.The most important is that we applied the Chinese and western classical style symbols the style designing of the new Shanghai-style furniture by a series of the‘Rong'designer.We finally researched the deeper meaning of the new Shanghai-style furniture.This paper has paved a new method for the designing of the new Shanghai-style furniture in theory.
