There is a growing demand for effedtively utilization of renewable energy resources such as solar,wind,geothermal energy and so forth.However,these energy resources are intermittent,thus making them difficult to be used directly.Converting these energies into electricity is a practical way if proper electrical energy storage technology should be identified.Among many electrical energy storage technologies,redox flow batteries have been considered as one of the most promising technologies that stem from modulated cell design,decoupled energy and power density,rich material source,calendar life and so forth.Particularly,redox flow batteries based on organic materials and non-aqueous electrolyte possesses widened electrochemical windows,which benefit the cell to achieve higher operating voltage as well as energy density.This thesis fouses on the improvement of energy density of redox-flow batteries through the design and synthesis of suitable organic materials.Zn-based eutectic mixture as liquid anode for redox flow batteriesIn this chapter,we synthesized a excessive metal complex[Fe(phen)3](BF4)2,and a low eutectic compounds Zn-DES,the full cell based on these two kinds of materials shows 3.4 M of available active ion concentration,and 90 Ah·L-1 of capacity density.The materials and the method provide a reference scheme for material selection of liquid flow batteries.N-phenyl phenothiazine-based derivatives as cathode for redox flow batteriesIn this work,we designed four organic small molecules based on n-phenylphenothiazine.The half cell based on one of the organic small molecules shows 3.77 V of working voltage,and 1.072 Ah/L of theoretical capacity.The design provides possibilities for the applications of phenothiazine derivatives in redox flow batteries.
