Brazed diamond tools have been widely used in stone,ceramics,optical glass,all kinds of metal,oil and gas drilling,geological scandinavian and other advantages,because of its large chip removal space,strong chemical metallurgy combination,high processing efficiency,long service life and so on.At present,for different types of brazed diamond tools,the research is mainly focused on the brazing process and the reaction mechanism of brazing interface.The failure of brazed diamond abrasive particles is mostly to observe the phenomenon after fracture,so it is inferred and lack of observation and Research on the failure process of brazed diamond abrasive particles.This issue has been studied for this problem.The main work and conclusion of the paper are as follows:In this paper,three kinds of common solder based on nickel,silver and copper base were used as the base.Two active elements of chromium and titanium were selected to form six different kinds of solder.The soldering experiments of CVD single crystal and diamond abrasive were carried out under high frequency induction condition.The failure mode of diamond tools during shearing was observed by high speed camera,and the changes of shear force in the shear process were tracked,and the section after shearing was observed and analyzed.Based on the mechanical mechanical properties of diamond abrasive particles and solder,the main reasons for the change of the shear strength of the different filler metals were analyzed,and the shear failure model of the diamond abrasive particles was established.The test results show that the failure modes of the diamond tools can be roughly divided into two categories:(1)the failure of the diamond fracture represented by the nickel base solder;(2)the slipping failure of the diamond represented by the silver base filler metal.The diamond tools of copper based brazing filler are different according to the brazing conditions.Brazing temperature and corrosion will cause significant loss of strength of the diamond abrasive particles,there is a definite relation between the mechanical properties of the solder erosion on the strength of diamond and solder itself,i.e.when the strength of solder is higher,the erosion of diamond is more powerful,leading to diamond grain strength decreased the more serious.The final failure mode of brazed diamond grains is the comprehensive result of diamond abrasive strength and filler strength under shear force.For nickel base solder,the strength loss of diamond is serious because of the erosion of temperature and filler metal,and the strength of the filler metal is high,so it shows the fracture of diamond abrasive particles.For the silver base solder,because of the low strength of the filler metal and the weak erosion of the diamond abrasive,the slip along the brazing layer is shown.The results of this paper are of guiding significance for the production of brazed diamond tools.
