The waste dump of an open pit mine is the site where the overburden material in the open pit is discarded. The waste disposal is composed by soil, rock or mixture of soil and rock. The open pit waste dump has many factors affecting the stability of the soil, among the factors affecting its stability, the role of water is particularly significant.Water is an extremely harmful factor in the stability of slopes, rainwater infiltration and ground-water level rise will lead to the increase of hydraulic gradient in the slope and the decrease of the slope stability of the dump.Water plays an important role in the deformation and failure of the slope of the dump, and is an important factor affecting the deformation, failure and stability of the slope of the dump. This research paper objective is to study seepage effect and deposition on the slope stability of dump.In this paper were made 3 tests, first test was specific gravity laboratory test, where could be found the specific gravity of each specimen.Second test made was consolidation of the soil, from this test were possible to know the porosity, void ratio behavior of each soil specimen when applied effective pressure.Last test was permeability of soils test where could find the changes of the Coefficient of permeability, discharge velocity and seepage velocity when applied effective pressure on the specimen, and how fundamental and dangerous it is for the waste dump.As conclusion could prove that effective pressure directly influence the stability of dump and that the seepage filtration in the waste dump. This paper has 46 figures,46 tables and 76 references.
