Microemulsion is a semi transparent or transparent emulsion whose diameter is 0.01-0.1um.Compared with conventional emulsion,microemulsion has the advantages of high film density,high gloss and good permeability.Microemulsion polymerization and it's application are the development direction of polymer emulsion in the future.In this paper,the microemulsion polymerization methods and processes of three monomers of butyl acrylate(BA),methyl methacrylate(MMA)and styrene(ST)were investigated.The optimum synthesis conditions is the synthetic process of monomer differential drop process,monomer initial amount were 0,the monomer dropping time was 2.5h,the emulsifier was sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS),the alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether and their dosage were all 8%,the polymerization temperature was 82?,0.6% dosage of the agent,10% co-emulsifier agent of emulsifying dose and the varied mechanical dispersing strength.The average size of the PMMA microemulsion was 20.45 nm and the solid content was 30.12%.By studying the influencing factors of water resistance,transmittance,adhesion and film forming properties,the acrylate microemulsion with practical value was obtained.Finally,the ratio of MMA: BA was 2:1,the content of AA was 3%,and the amount of emulsifier was 4%.The obtained microemulsion has film-forming property,1 adhesion force,good water resistance,and the particle size of emulsion is 31.45 nm.The practical acrylate microemulsions were applied to stone protection,fire retardant coating,paper processing and permeability,contact angle,gloss and water absorption.The research results show that the practical microemulsion developed by our research has certain application effect.
