Jade wares have a very special meaning in Chinese people's mind,the jade pieces need polishing before they can become exquisite works of art.The traditional polishing method of jade is processed by the rigid grinding effect of abrasive and jade pieces,but it can not meet the needs of modern production due to the low processing efficiency,easy scratches and subsurface damage,easy abrasion of carving details and other shortcomings.Therefore,a new way of polishing jade is urgently needed.In recent years,Magnetorheological Finishing(MRF),a new surface ultra-precision machining technology has been developed.Its high polishing accuracy,high efficiency and easy control of polishing surface,make it widely used in the processing of optical parts,especially aspheric parts.In this paper,MRF will be applied to jade polishing area.Considering the advantages of MRF,such as high coincidence of processing surface,large flexibility rubbing,and not easy to produce sub-surface damage,polishing experiments based on MRF were carried out on carved jade chips through the flexible polishing procedure,the scratches on the surface of the jade are gradually planished and the carving details are retained,so as to explore a better polishing method.The main contents and achievements of this paper are as following:(1)The whole composition and fabrication process of MRF were presented,the basis of composition of each component was analyzed,the shear yield strength formula of MRF was studied.Based on the practical processing,the selection criterion of each component was presented,and the content ratio of each component was optimized gradually through single factor experiment.Finally,a magnetorheological polishing fluid with good magnetization,high material removal rate,anti-sedimentation and anti-coagulation effect was established.(2)A polishing platform prototype is designed,and the magnetic circuit of the target path is calculated.Using Maxwell software to simulate the magnetic field.The distribution of magnetic induction lines and magnetic flux density vectors in the magnetic field are analyzed,and the magnetic induction intensity of the target magnetic field is measured.By comparing the simulation results with the experiments,the accuracy and validity of the designed platform has been verified.(3)The magnetorheological polishing equipment and magnetorheological fluid are used to polish jade pieces,and the influence law on polishing effect is analyzed from three aspects of jade piece rotation speed,processing time and magnetic field excitation current.At the same time,bleaching,waxing and other post-treatment operations are carried out on the polished jade pieces to observe and compare the treatment effects,thus laying a good experimental foundation for optimizing process parameters,researching and analyzing polishing rules and the like in the future.
