Under the background of economic globalization, the international division of labor system has been deepened, and the economic dependence between countries has been continuously improved. At the same time, international direct investment activities are not limited to developed countries, and developing countries are also playing a important role in it.China’s rapid economic development is inseparable from the contribution of international direct investment. However, domestic environmental pollution and increasing carbon emissions have become the main factors restricting the sustainable development of China’s economy.Reducing carbon emissions has become the consensus of all mankind.China is committed to bringing domestic carbon emissions to peak in 2030,which requires collaboration in multiple areas. The research on the effects of foreign direct investment on environmental impacts, especially carbon emissions, mainly focuses on the research and discussion of the two viewpoints of “Pollution Heaven Hypothesis” and “Pollution Halo Hypothesis”.This thesis studies and analyzes whether the foreign direct investment and foreign direct investment in China can affect domestic carbon emissions and how do they work.International direct investment affects China’s carbon emissions through Scale effect, structure effect and technical effect.Based on the empirical results, overall, for every 1% increase in China’s foreign direct investment,China’s carbon dioxide emissions will increase by 0.04%;for every 1% increase in foreign direct investment in China,China’s carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 0.201%,of which the technical effect is important way for international direct investment to reduce carbon emissions. The thesis also predicts that in 2030,China’s international direct investment activities will reduce the growth rate of China’s carbon dioxide emissions by 0.3%,but this is far from reaching the goal,China faces The pressure to reduce carbon emissions is still large. To this end, this thesis proposes that China should constantly improve and promote the “the Belt and Road” initiative and the “going out” strategy of enterprises;continue to expand opening up and increase the intensity and quality of foreign investment;strengthen international cooperation, adjust energy structure, and vigorously develop clean energy. |
