Research On Performance Of Ethylene-propylene-diene Monomer Rubber And Styrene-butadiene Rubber Blends

The main objective of paper is to improve the performance of styrene butadiene rubber and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber blends.The purpose is to achieve the complementation of the performance of two kinds of rubber,improve the process ability,self-adhesive and wear resistance of EPDM.At the same time,the heat resistance,ozone resistance and weather resistance of styrene butadiene rubber are improved.The main material is SBR 1502 made by QILU Petrochemical Industries and EPDM3960 Q made by LANXESS chemical.Compatibilizer is used to improve the performance of blends.The main compatibilizers are ethylene vinyl acetate(EVM),chlorinated polyethylene rubber(CM),trans polyoctyl rubber and maleic anhydride modified ethylene propylene copolymer.By adding compatibilizer,the tensile strength,tearing strength,compression permanent deformation,wear resistance and ozone resistance are improved.The phase state is observed from the microscopic aspect with the scanning electron microscope.The results showed that the addition of compatibilizer has been improved to varying degrees in most of the performance compared to the formulations which are not added to the compatibilizer.The vulcanization auxiliary is used to coordinate the rate of vulcanization between the SBR and EPDM.The selected vulcanizing auxiliaries include three hydroxymethyl propane,three methacrylate(TMPTMA),N,N '-meta phenylene bismaleimide,and peroxide two isopropyl benzene(DCP).We expect that these vulcanization auxiliary can more effectively enhance the vulcanization rate of EPDM to achieve the co vulcanization of SBR,thereby improving the performance of the blends.The results show that the addition of DCP can effectively improve the heat resistance of the blends,and HVA-2 can effectively improve the tear strength and wear resistance of the blends.Through compatibilizer and vulcanization auxiliary,The means of improving a series of performance of SBR/EPDM blends provided an idea for the industrial application of SBR and EPDM.
