Temperature-responsive polymer is a kind of polymer material that can respond to the change of external temperature.Because the temperature is easy to control and adjust,it has been widely used in water treatment, drug delivery, genetic engineering, tertiary oil recovery and other fields. In this thesis, hydroxyethyl cellulose(HEC),butyl glycidylether(BGE)and 2,3-epoxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(GTA)as raw material, two types of polymer with different performance, thermally precipitated butylated cationic cellulose(TPBCC)and thermally thickening butylated cationic cellulose(TTBCC),were synthesized by changing the ratio of hydrophilic group and hydrophobic group of cellulose derivatives to adjust the hydrophilic-lipophilic equilibrium. The effects of the amount of solvent, the amount of sodium hydroxide, the reaction time and the reaction temperature on the degree of substitution of GTA on the butylated cationic cellulose were investigated.Three kinds of thermally precipitated polymers and four kinds of thermally thickening polymers were synthesized under the optimal reaction conditions, and their structures were characterized by ~1H-NMR,FTIR,XRD and TGA.The effects of different hydrophilic-lipophilic equilibrium, polymer concentration and NaCl concentration on the temperature-responsive properties of TPBCC series and TTBCC series were investigated. The results showed that when the degree of substitution of GTA increased from 0.03 to 0.09(TPBCC-1 to TPBCC-3),the temperature responsiveness became slower and slower.TPBCC has a higher light transmittance at a lower temperature. As the temperature rises to a certain range, the light transmittance decreases sharply. The property of thermal precipitation performance was related to the mass concentration of TPBCC and NaCl.The higher the mass concentration of the polymer and NaCl,the more sensitive the thermal precipitation performance was.The temperature sensitivity is independent of the temperature rise rate during the test.Firstly, the viscosity of TTBCC aqueous solution increased, then decreased with the increase of temperature. The greater the degree of substitution of GTA,the more obvious the thermal thickening phenomenon. The higher the mass concentration of TTBCC,the better the thermal thickening property. When NaCl was added to the system, the temperature sensitivity and thickening performance decreased significantly.TPBCC and TTBCC have better reversibility. The effects of substitution degree of GTA,dosage of flocculant, flocculation time,pH and temperature on flocculation were investigated. The results showed that the higher the substitution degree of GTA,the better the flocculation effect. The optimal dosage of TPBCC-1to TPBCC-3 was 0.02 mg/L.pH had no effect on flocculation. In the process of flocculation, the flocculation speed was faster in the first 5 min.At temperatures higher than that of 30?,turbidity of kaolin suspensions with the temperature change is no longer apparent. As flocculant,TPBCC has smaller flocculation volume than non-temperature sensitive flocculant.TPBCC gels and TTBCC gels were synthesized from TPBCC and TTBCC by crosslinking ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether(EGDE).The best synthesis conditions of TPBCC gel and TTBCC gel were investigated with TPBCC-1 and TTBCC-4 representatives. The results showed that TPBCC gel had good temperature sensitivity, while TTBCC gel did not.
