The porous polystyrene microspheres with few layer graphene were prepared by suspension polymerization using styrene as monomer, divinylbenzene as crosslinking agent and linear polystyrene as pore-forming agent. The microspheres were characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and thermo-gravimetric analysis. The adsorption to the heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as phenol, quinolone and indole, and the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including naphthalene, anthracene and phenanthrene was measured by UV-visible spectrometer. The results show that micropores were formed in polystyrene/graphene microsphere.Microspheres can adsorb more polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons instead of heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and almost no adsorption of phenol. The adsorption capacity of naphthalene is significantly better than that of anthracene and phenanthrene. The adsorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can be both well described by pseudo-second-order kinetics adsorption model, and the adsorption capacities were up to naphthalene 5.20 mg·g-1;anthracene 1.72 mg·g-1;phenanthrene 2.13 mg·g-11 and quinolone 1.18 mg·g-1;indole 0.79 mg·g-1,respectively.These microspheres can be regeneratedin20adsorption-desorptioncycles.Thepolystyrene/graphene microsphere provides a new material for organic wastewater treatment.
