Sieve tray is a common type of trays in chemical industry.The traditional crossflow sieve plate has a large pressure drop and serious backflow of liquid phase on the tray plate during operation.In this work,In order to improve the stability and mass transfer efficiency of distillation column,a new structure of tray with multiple homodromous folding planes was developed,which named Folding sieve tray(FST).On that kind of tray,Sieve holes were distributed in the same direction on folding parts.With the characteristics of sieve holes arrangement,the gas eliminated backflow of liquid phase on the tray plate.In this work,first of all,3D printing was used to product the FST structure and the normal sieve tray(ST).Pressure drops,clear liquid heights and froth heights of FST and ST were investigated in a ?300mm organic glass column with air-water system.CFD method was put in use to study the hydrodynamics performance of FST and ST.The reliability of the models was verified in the measure of clear liquid height by comparing the simulation results with the experiment results.The backflow,pressure drop,clear liquid height,froth height and the details of the gas-liquid distributions on the tray were investigated.About 90% of backflow,50% of clear liquid height and 30% of wet tray pressure drop were reduced in FST.The influence on FST of folding angles(90°,60°,30°),opening ratio(10.2%,12.5%,15.0%)and hole diameters(?6mm,?8mm,?10mm)were predicted,The results showed that the appropriate folding Angle was 90° and ?8mm of hole diameter was optimal when considering the intension of pressure drop and the height of the froth layer.
