Methionine,the only amino acid containing alkyl sulfide,can be used in medicine,hairdressing and feed.In recent years,the demand of methionine increases steadily and reaches 1.3 million tons by 2013.Acrolein is the irreplaceable intermediate for methionine synthesis,which produced by the oxidization of propylene.In such a process,about ten percent of propylene changes into acrylic acid,which forms into the acrylic acid wastewater.The wastewater contains poisonous and harmful substances,and it is hard to disposal.The conventional solution to the acrylic acid wastewater is burning directly.This method consumes large amount of nature gas or fuel oil,and generates carbon dioxide at the same time.Therefore,it is great economic and environment protection significance to invent an economic feasible method to treat the acrylic acid wastewater.In this work,the merits and drawbacks of different methods for the treatment of acrylic acid wastewater were summarized.A new process was designed according to the composition of acrylic acid wastewater in Shandong Xinhecheng Amino Acid Company.The new process was then simulated by using the Aspen plus software and experimentally tested by using the equipment of the company.At last,the fees between the burning method and the new process were compared.The results showed that after the treatment by the newly designed process,acrylic acid in the wastewater was refined to a product for sale,with a purity of 99%.The residue of the wastewater could be treated by a biochemical process.Compared to the burning method currently used in the company,the new process was more economical and environment protection.
