With increasing output of petroleum coke,the value-added exploitation of petroleum coke has become a tough problem.Preparing porous carbons is a traditional way to the value-added exploitation of petroleum coke.Mesoporous carbon has received great attention in macromolecule adsorption,catalyst support,and rapid energy-storage fields,due to their mechanical strength,high surface area and controllable porous structure.Hence,that petroleum coke-based mesoporous carbon was synthesized was contributed to the value-added exploitation of petroleum coke and broadening the raw material of porous carbon.Firstly,mesoporous carbon with high surface area from petroleum coke was synthesized using a facile and efficient hard-templating strategy.N2 adsorption analyses show that the BET specific area and pore volume of the carbons can reach up to 864 m2·g-1 and 1.37 m3·g-1,respectively.To utilize the abundant mesopores of the carbons,Anthraquinone-modified mesoporous carbon was tested as an electrode material for supercapacitor applications.Electrochemical measurements demonstrated that the specific capacitance reached up to 366F·g-1 at the current density of 1 A·g-1.Secondly,a kind of soft-templated mesoporous carbon was successfully synthesized using F127 as a template and petroleum coke-based amphiphilic carbonaceous material as a carbon source through a solvent evaporation induced self-assembly method.N2 adsorption analyses show this soft-templated mesoporous carbon possessed a high specific area of 473m2·g-1.The as-prepared sample presented a good capacitive performance due to its developed porous structure and abundant mesopore content.Lastly,a novel strategy to synthesized carbon nano-sheets using layer-structured montmorillonite?MMT?as a quasi-closed flat nano-reactor and petroleum coke-based amphiphilic carbonaceous material as a carbon source was developed.N2 adsorption analyses show this soft-templated mesoporous carbon possessed a high specific area of 618 m2·g-1.Electrochemical measurements demonstrated that the specific capacitance reached up to 226F·g-1 at the current density of 0.2 A·g-1,with a capacitance retention ratio of 71%at the current density of 20 A·g-1.This excellent performance indicates very promising prospects of this carbon in electrochemical energy-storage field.
