Quartz glass is widely used in optics and medical field.In this paper,quartz glass is machined by micro milling.In order to improve the machining quality,the key parameters of brittle ductile transition are studied,including cutting thickness and temperature.First,the cutting thickness is the most sensitive parameter for brittle materials such as quartz glass,and the formula of cutting thickness for micro milling under the inclined shaft condition is deduced.The influence of cutting thickness,cutting speed and cutting edge length on machining is numerically analyzed.In theory,the influence of spindle angle and feed per tooth on machining is investigated theoretically.Then,the cutting thickness and cutting speed derived from the theory are replaced by the Abaqus finite element simulation software,and the two development of the constitutive model of Abaqus is carried out,and the JH-2constitutive model of the quartz glass is introduced.The 2D simulation of cutting process is carried out,and the simulation results are piecewise fitted to obtain the micro milling quality under different machining parameters.Then,the micro milling test platform was built,and the micro milling experiment on the quartz glass was carried out on the platform to explore the influence of different processing parameters on the surface roughness and crumble.Compared with theory and simulation,the correctness of the theory and simulation is verified.Finally,laser thermal assisted micro milling of quartz glass is studied.Abaqus finite element software is used for thermal simulation of laser irradiated quartz glass,and the thermal field of milling cross section is analyzed.To optimize the laser power,incidence angle and installation location without residual thermal stress and thermal crack as the optimization objective.On this basis,laser thermal assisted micro milling test is carried out,through the workpiece quality and tool wear detection.It is found that laser heating can improve the machining quality,which proves that the machinability of brittle materials can be improved by heating.
