With the booming development of oil exploration, mining and ship transportation, offshore oil spills continue to occur and oil has become a major pollutant in the ocean. The oil spilled from the oil spill accidents are not always floating, they will be semi-submerging or sinking due to the change of their own nature or water environment conditions. In addition to the changes of the physical and chemical properties of oil spills, the combination of particulate matter and oil spills to form oil-suspended aggregations(OSA)also plays an important role in the sunken and submerged process of oil spills. However, the current mechanism of the particulate matter on the sunken and submerged process of oil has not been well understood, and the results under different experimental conditions are quite different. The experiments conducted an in-depth study on the mechanism of OSA leading to oil sunken and submerged by laboratory simulated experiments of interaction between oil and particles and wave tank researches on the influence of particulate matters on the vertical distribution of oil spill. The experiments selected the Yellow River particles and kaolin to work with five kinds of petroleum respectively. The main experimental conclusions obtained are as follows:(1)The adsorption amount of particulate matter to petroleum increases with the increase of the concentration of particulate matter. In this experiment, the adsorption equilibrium has not been reached when the concentration of particulate matter reaches 1 g/L.High salinity is beneficial to the adsorption of petroleum by particulate matter, and the effect of particle size on the amount of adsorption is related to the type of particulate matter.Different types of dispersing agents promote and inhibit the formation of OSA,but the same kind of dispersing agent will promote or inhibit the effect with increasing dosage.(2)Under the interaction of YYH,LX and ZD with kaolin, the fastest time of submergence rate appeared at 13,7 and 6 min respectively, and the submersible could reach equilibrium after about 50 min. Moreover, the oil properties have a significant effect on the formation process of the submerged oil.The lower the viscosity of the oil,the more likely it is to sink. The adsorption mode of kaolin to crude oil satisfies the Langmuir isotherm adsorption type, which is basically monolayer adsorption, and the saturated adsorption amounts of YYH,LX and ZD are 914,1297,2083 mg/g,respectively.(3)The results of the tank experiment also meet the above conclusions. The smaller the viscosity, the more likely the oil will sink and is not affected by the horizontal position.
