Research On The Application Of Traditional Fans In Jewelry Design

The Chinese fan has a long history.Accompanying people in daily life,the fan is not only a practical tool,but also an artistic form,which integrating painting,carving,embroidery and weaving into one entirety,and containing rich cultural connotations and design ideals.On the one hand,the study on these fans and culture has profound significance for modern jewelry design,there are more approaches will be applied to enhance the culture identity of jewelry works.On the other hand,the design that combined elements of traditional fans will become a successor of national culture.The contemporary expression of fan culture has shown us a great vitality in the consumer market,including many fields such as construction,production,graphic design,etc.For western jewelry,designers prefer to use the typical form of fans to reflect eastern art features,their works demonstrate sufficient possibility to blend different aesthetic values.Based on this,we need to search for something deeper that is rooted in cultural environment instead of superficial imitation,and then combine modern ideals,create more lively designs.First,this paper tried to analyze different functions of various kinds of fans by arranging and researching the thread of history,in order to build a foundation for its further investigation.Then the paper respectively discussed the application of these fans in jewelry design from the angles of form,structure,material and handicraft,in this part there are lots of cases available to summarize some general rules of design and performance.In addition,fan painting and personality design were also explored from fan art and culture.Finally,the author through the design practice proved the feasibility and validity of the method in this paper.Hope to bring inspiration and support for modern jewelry design.
