Based on the theory of partial differential equation proposed by Vutukuri according to Mohr's envelope, the Mohr-Wedge rock failure criterion that is an improvement on Mohr-Coulomb criterion was obtained by introducing the Wedge model to solve this equation.By arranging the parameters in Mohr-Wedge criterion and using multiple data of rock triaxial tests in published literatures, the conclusions are as follows:(1)In order to discuss the applicability of this criterion,Mohr-Wedge criterion was compared to Mohr-Coulomb criterion and the Hoek-Brown criterion. The results showed that Mohr-Wedge criterion had a good fitting with the data of rock triaxial tests, and its fitting results were slightly better than the other two kinds of criterion for some rock, which proved that Mohr-Wedge criterion had certain applicability for predicting the rock strength.(2)The Mohr-Wedge criterion is deduced when the vertex angles of wedge particles are unknown. Then, using the the Indiana rock triaxial data to research the criterion on predicting the rock strength. The results showed that the ? was equal to 45 degress, not only ensured the accuracy of predicting the rock strength, but also facilitated the criterion's application.(3)Choosing the drawing module Matplotlib and the calculation module Sympy in Python as a supplementary tool and using the transformation relation of partial plane and 3D coordinate of the principal stress variables, then combining with symmetric relation of the principal stress space, the Mohr-Wedge criterion's yield locus of partial plane could be obtained. The elasto-plastic state of rock materials could be analyzed by the yield curve.
