With the rapid development of industry, oil pollution such as the discharge of oily sewage and the leakage of offshore oil has become more and more serious, which has seriously affected the ecological environment and human life. The development of clean and efficient oil absorbing materials has become a research hotspot.High oil absorption resins have the advantages of fast oil absorption rate, lower density than water, high oil-water selectivity, high oil absorption rate and high oil retention rate, convenient storage and transportation, etc. They have overcome many shortcomings of traditional oil absorption materials. In this paper, lauryl methacrylate?LMA?was chosen as the monomer to prepare the oil absorbing resin, and its growth on the surface of carbon fibers was studied. The oil absorption properties of PLMA/carbon fiber were tested. The main research contents are as follows:Firstly, the solvent exchange method was used to generate LMA droplets on the surface of carbon fibers, and PLMA was prepared by photopolymerization. The changes of the growth height and lateral diameter of LMA droplets were investigated under the influence of three factors:the treatment method of carbon fiber, the concentration of solution A?A saturated solution of LMA in a mixture of ethanol and H2O?and the flow rate of solution B?H2O?.The growth process of LMA droplets on the surface of carbon fibers was further analyzed. The experimental results showed that among the selected carbon fibers,CF-1 was the most suitable carbon fiber for the growth of LMA droplets. The concentration of solution A and the flow rate of solution B had a greater impact on the droplet size. The final volume of LMA droplets increased with the increase of the Pellett number?Pe number?,that is,V?Pe5/2.In addition, the droplet growth followed a certain rule. The droplet size increased firstly, then decreased and finally remained constant during the growth process.Secondly, solvent exchange was performed when the carbon fiber sheet was used as the growth substrate. Then PLMA/carbon fiber?PLMA/CF?was prepared by photopolymerization. The oil absorption ratio of soybean oil under different solvent exchange times was studied.Under the conditions of solvent exchange twice, the oil absorption ratio of the prepared sample was the highest. The absorption performance of PLMA/carbon fiber prepared by direct photopolymerization, solvent exchange twice and thermal polymerization on soybean oil was compared. It was found that the material prepared by thermal polymerization had the best oil absorption performance, with an oil absorption ratio of 3.21 g·g-1.Finally,PLMA/CF materials was prepared by thermal polymerization and the praparation process was optimized, using LMA as the polymerization monomer, azobisisobutyronitrile?AIBN?as the initiator,N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide?MBA?as the crosslinking agent, and carbon fiber as the matrix. The effects of the amount of AIBN,the amount of MBA,the amount of carbon fiber and the suction time on the oil absorption properties of the PLMA/CF were mainly investigated.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy?FT-IR?and scanning electron microscope?SEM?were used to study the molecular structure and micromorphology of PLMA/CF.The results showed that when the mass fraction of AIBN was 0.10 wt%,the mass fraction of MBA was 0.05 wt%,the mass fraction of carbon fiber was 8 wt%and the air extraction time was 10 min,the PLMA/CF material had a good oil absorption property. The maximum oil absorption ratio for gasoline, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, toluene, kerosene, diesel and benzene were 13.95 g·g-1,31.57 g·g-1,31.21 g·g-1,16.33 g·g-1,13.36 g·g-1,13.35 g·g-1,16.95 g·g-1,respectively.And the oil retention ratios were above 94%.
