The combination of robust lubricity,as well as some physical and chemical properties renders imidazolium hexafluorophosphate ionic liquids(ILs)as novel lubricants in reference to conventional lubricants for electrical contact.Both good lubricity and low corrosion to electrical contact materials are pursued as the highest priority in the present time.In this context,LP108,is selected using [HEMIM]NTf2 as a control.The lubricity and corrosion of the two kinds of lubricants are evaluated in both flooded mode and thin film mode.For thin film mode,a preapplied ionic liquid is applied using a well-established process in electrical contact field.The effect of surface topography of Ag-Cu/Ti film on the distribution and condensed state is investigated.The discussion on lubricating mechanism and corrosion mechanism is also made.Moreover,the application of LP108 and [HEMIM]NTf2 on three kinds of Ag films prepared by three kinds of processes(i.e.multi-arc ion plating,electroless plating,and electroplating)is conducted.The main results and conclusions are as follow:1.For Ag-Cu/Ti film in presence of either flooded or thin film LP108,good lubricity is achieved.Ag-Cu/Ti film is severely corroded in flooded LP108 while is hardly corroded in thin film LP108.2.Thin film LP108 renders good lubricity and low corrosion to electrical contact materials.The process is valued for the convenience,large-scale production and cost effectiveness.3.In thin film mode,LP108 is superior to [HEMIM]NTf2 in lubricity and has low corrosion to Ag-Cu/Ti film as [HEMIM]NTf2.4.The robust lubricity of thin film LP108 is attributed to the unique microstructure,tribo-physics,and tribo-chemistry.5.The lubricity of LP108 and [HEMIM]NTf2 on three kinds of Ag films prepared by three kinds of processes(i.e.multi-arc ion plating,electroless plating,and electroplating)is different from one to another.This is due to chemical composition,surface topography,and wetability.
