Household domestic waste management is becoming an important part of urban environmental governance. The widespread participation of general public is the key to the success of waste separation, however, such collective action is vulnerable to the free-rider problem and easily ends in failure. And economic incentives have proven to be an effective way to solve the dilemma. However, existing research has not yet discussed which factors affect the effectiveness of economic incentives in encouraging public participation in waste classification. The present study takes economically positive effects as the research object, and aims to solve these problems by exploring how social influence(a basic force shaping human behavior)affects public participation in waste classification and reward programs. This paper uses a large data set covering the incentive schemes of residents in 100 communities in??District,??City, and combines the local socioeconomic characteristics to form a vertical imbalanced data structure.Using the method of generalized linear mixed model and using R software to process the data, the monthly number of participants in the incentive plan and the new number of monthly participants were tested separately. To ensure the reliability of the results, two sensitivity analyses were performed. The main results show that informal social networks have a significant positive impact on the effects of economic incentives, but formal social networks have no significant effect;strong altruistic norms can have a negative impact on the effects of economic incentives;key actors will The effects of economic incentives have a positive effect. In future research, the effects of economic incentives should be explored more systematically. At the same time,in the field of practice, the implementation of economic incentives must fully take into account the context of its implementation, and give full play to the role of social influence,so that economic incentive measures can play a better role.
