Electrorheological fluid is a smart fluid composed of micro-nano particles dispersed in insulating oil. When an electric field is applied, its rheological properties?shear viscosity, shear stress, modulus?will undergo a huge change. It can change from a liquid-like state to a solid-like state, and then return to the liquid state when the electric field is removed. This change is instantaneously reversible. In this paper, ionic liquid was used as template to assist the preparation of titanium dioxide particles as the dispersed phase material of electrorheological fluid.Firstly, the influence of ionic liquids with different structures on morphology and crystal structure of titanium dioxide was studied by selecting ionic liquids with different structures as template agents, and its effect on the rheological properties was mainly studied,Then the ionic liquid with strong template effect was selected, and the influence of different ionic liquid content on the electrorheological performance was explored by controlling the reflux time. Finally, acetic acid was added to assist in the preparation of titanium dioxide, and the effects of different acetic acid contents on the morphology and electrorheological properties of titanium dioxide were studied.?1?Three ionic liquids with different structures were selected as template agents, and TiO2-[BMIm][BF4],TiO2-[BMIm][PF6],TiO2-[HOEtMIm][BF4]were prepared respectively. The results showed that the addition of ionic liquids made the particle size larger and the surface rougher, and only TiO2-[HOEtMIm][BF4]appeared anatase phase. The rheological test showed that after adding the ionic liquid, the zero-field viscosity of the fluids would decrease, and the rheological efficiency would be improved.TiO2-[BMIm][BF4]showed relatively good performance.?2?Titanium dioxide particles with different ionic liquid contents were prepared by using 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole hexafluorophosphate?[BMIm][PF6]?with strong template effect as template agent, and the reflux time was controlled for 6 h and 10 h.As a result,it was found that titanium dioxide with higher ionic liquid content had better rheological properties, higher rheological efficiency, and better responsiveness.?3?Acetic acid with different molar ratios was added to assist in the preparation of ionic liquid doped titanium dioxide. The results showed that with the increase of acetic acid content, the surface of particles changed from relatively smooth to the rough morphology of small particles.Anatase phase appeared after the content of acetic acid increased.Rheological tests showed that the electrorheological properties were relatively high after adding a small amount of acetic acid, but the leakage current was also large. With the increase of acetic acid content, the electrorheological properties decreased, but it had lower zero field viscosity and higher electrorheological efficiency.
