Equipment manufacturing industry in China is developing rapidly.Difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium alloy and nickel base alloy have been widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive, chemical, energy, medical and other fields.Although the application of difficult-to-machine materials in modern high-tech equipment is more and more extensive, there are many common characteristics in cutting process, such as large cutting force, high cutting temperature, severe tool wear, serious working hardening and difficult metal shavings handling. The traditional method of cutting has been unable to keep up with the pace of the times,it is difficult to meet the current needs. In this paper, the electro plastic effect is applied to the cutting of difficult-to-machine material and has been studied in depth, and some important research results have been obtained. The design, modeling, construction and commissioning of high instantaneous pulse energy supply have been done.High instantaneous energy pulse power supply is a very important basic equipment in the electro plastic cutting experiment. With this experimental device as the foundation, pulse current processing can be carried out.Although there are many types of impulse power supplies, the design and development of high-current impulse power supplies is still relatively rare, which restricts the research and development of high-current impulse current machining materials.According to the characteristics of electro plastic processing required.Works such as current circuit design, circuit board manufacturing, components selecting for installation and commissioning have been done, and a prototype power supply is developed. The field test of the power supply has been carried out.The results show that the power supply fully meets the design requirements. Two kinds of typical difficult-to-machine materials, titanium alloy and nickel base superalloy, were tested by electroplating.Through the design of orthogonal experiment, contrasting the changes of the main cutting force during the cutting process of the two kinds of difficult-to-machine materials under the condition of powering on and off, verifying the effect of electroplating effect on reducing the difficulty of cutting difficult materials. At the same time, the surface roughness, the temperature of the workpiece and the cutting tool wear in different conditions are also compared and analyzed. The characteristics of chip formation of titanium alloy and nickel base superalloy during power cutting and non electric cutting are experimentally studied, and the influence rule of chip formation is revealed. The finite element simulation software ABAQUS is used to simulate the dynamic cutting process of titanium alloy, and the simulation results are basically in agreement with the experimental results.
