Metal nanoparticles composites with rare earth ions doped have kept an eye of researchers due to their wide application in many fields such as optical communication and waveguide. In terms of the luminescence properties of rare earth ions doped metal nanoparticles at the wavelength of the mid-infrared,the relevant research is insufficient. In this thesis, based on bismuth germanate glass with a lower phonon energy,we studied the luminescence properties of Er3+ ions doped glasses containing Ag nanoparticle(Ag NPs)at 2710 nm.The main work of this thesis could be summarized as follows.(1)Adopting a chemical reduction method based on conventional melting-quenching technology, the samples of Er3+ ions doped bismuth germanate glasses containing Ag NPs were prepared. From the transmission electron microscopic(TEM)image,it revealed that the Ag NPs with different size were homogeneously distributed in the glass matrix.Furthermore,it can be shown that the fluorescence intensity of Er3+ ions at 2710 nm had the trend of increasing first and then decrease with increasing Ag content, and which reached the maximum value at 1.5 mol% Ag Cl from the fluorescence spectra.Meanwhile, the introduction of Ag NPs extended the fluorescence life at 2710 nm.And for further improvement of the emission efficiency of Er3+ ions at 2710 nm,the de-watering effects was achieved by controlling the oxygen supply during the experiment. The results showed that the decrease of O-H impurity content promoted the luminescence of Er3+ ions at 2710 nm.Finally, the luminescence enhancement mechanism of Er3+ ions was analyzed, which was caused by local field enhancement from SPR(surface plasmon resonance)of Ag NPs and Ag0?Er3+ energy transfer.(2)The Er3+ ions doped fluorine-containing bismuth germanate glasses containing Ag Cl were prepared, and Ag NPs were precipitated by heat treatment. The results showed that the SPR band of Ag NPs was from 575 to 590 nm.The luminescence spectra at mid-infrared showed that the fluorescence intensity obviously enhanced with the addition of Ag Cl,which was 3 times higher than that of glass without Ag NPs.The maximum stimulated emission cross-section of Er3+ ions at the wavelength of 2710 nm was calculated to be 1.12×10-19 cm2.The preparation method of composite was simple in this thesis. The luminescence intensity of rare earth ions doped glasses containing Ag NPs was enhanced significantly.Through the research work in this thesis, the luminescent materials of Er3+ ions doped glasses containing Ag NPs at the wavelength of mid-infrared were obtained, which may provide excellent gain medium for mid-infrared lasers or used for 2.7 ?m amplifiers.
