Gasoline additives were oxygenated compounds used to enhance gasoline octane number,improve gasoline combustion efficiency,and enhance gasoline antiknock performance.Its impact on human health and ecological environment has attracted great attention from researchers.In this study,methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE)gasoline,corn ethanol gasoline,and green chemical dimethyl carbonate(DMC)which has not been used commercially as additives,were selected as additives for the research object.The gasoline's whole life cycle,including raw material production,additive production,transportation,blending and storage,and vehicle operation were used for environmental impact assessment and comparative analysis to provide a reference for gasoline additive selection and research.The main research contents and results of this paper were as follows:(1)Based on the life cycle assessment method to assess the environmental impact of MTBE and corn ethanol as additive gasoline,quantify the net environmental benefits of implementing the national policy from the perspective of life cycle.The results show that the total environmental impact of MTBE gasoline was 2.27E-11,and that of ethanol gasoline was1.92E-11.The environmental impact of ethanol gasoline was 15.4%less than that of MTBE gasoline,that is,the substitution of ethanol for MTBE will reduce the total environmental impact.But not for all types of environmental impacts,from the current global focus on resources and energy consumption,greenhouse gas emissions,human health and other hot spots,ethanol gasoline was indeed superior to MTBE gasoline,in addition to acidification potential(AP),eutrophication potential(EP),nitrogen oxides(NO_x),inhalable inorganics(RI)were also better than MTBE gasoline.However,the two environmental impact types of water use and solid waste considered in this study,ethanol gasoline performed worse.(2)The life cycle assessment method was used to evaluate the environmental impact of gasoline with dimethyl carbonate as an additive,and compared with ethanol gasoline and MTBE gasoline.Divided its whole life cycle into five sub-processes and consider twelve environmental impacts including human health toxicity(HTP).The results show that the total environmental impact of dimethyl carbonate gasoline was 2.74E-11,of which gasoline production blending and storage sub-processes contributed the most to the environmental impact,followed by chemical raw material production sub-processes and DMC production sub-processes,while the environmental impact contribution of the two sub-processes of transportation and vehicle operation was low.HTP was the largest type of environmental impact contribution of this gasoline.In addition,the total environmental impact of the life cycle of dimethyl carbonate gasoline was greater than ethanol gasoline and MTBE gasoline.The environmental impact of DMC in the use process was low and it was a non-toxic green chemical.However,from the perspective of life cycle,its environmental impact mainly came from the upstream production process,especially the HTP contribution of the chemical raw material production sub-process.
