The Research Of The Evolution Of Modern Literati’s Residences Based On Memetics

Early modern times of China is a complex era and unstable period,which witnesses the crisis and revival of our nation.It also brings about a special group of people,modern literatus.They are born from the traditional class of literati and officialdom,and take the responsibility of enlightening the whole nation.This paper takes their residences as the study object,and discusses its evolution and development.Modern literati have unique preference in aesthetic appreciation and thoughts,and their residences can effectively reflect their appreciation and thoughts.In research method,the paper brings in the concept of memetics,and takes the process of residence evolution as the splitting recombination of meme groups,and takes the transmission of meme as main clue to illustrate.Memetics is usually used in the field of linguistics and Cultural Transmission,scarcely appears in architecture.Most of the existing papers are introduction and informal discussion or grafting concepts,lacking systematization.This paper hopes to change the situation,and truly takes meme as the first perspective.Meme infects human brain,and influences people’s behavior.Modern literatus are always open-minded,they are inclined to accept new thoughts.This leads them to become the class of reconciling the western and eastern contradiction.Their residences undoubtedly reflect the culture confliction and reconciliation.Combining with the regional differences,the evolution of literati’s residences in several representative Chinese modern cities is analyzed based on memetics.These cities are the modern coastal inception cities with developed geographical advantages like Shanghai,the modern cities of political centers like Nanjing,the modern cities of traditional cultural centers like Suzhou and Hangzhou,the moderm cities of wartime centers like Chongqing and the modern inland cities without geographical advantages like Changsha.The various factors influencing the evolution of Chinese modern literati’s residences are under research combining with point analysis and comprehensive comparison to make a conclusion that the process of residential evolution is actually the result of different groups of memes from eastern and western cultures conflicting and reconciling.The division of period in history can not interrupt the continuity of culture.Therefore,the end of the paper discusses the contemporary succession of modern literati’s residences,takes the design of Neo-Chinese Style as basis and puts forward the concept of sustainable meme.It hopes to provide experience for the design of contemporary literati’s residences.
