Under situation of global economic slowdown,the shipping industry has been a great impact:excess capacity,weak demand,oversupply,low hovering ocean freight,intense market competition,struggling living conditions.Under the downturn market environment,it is very important to reduce costs and improve efficiency for carriers.All carriers have to fact how to reduce operation costs and improve vessel utilization.Unpredictable and high booking no-shows in shipping industry creates huge waste to carriers' assets,resources and in return poor service quality as carriers overbook to compensate no-shows.Booking no-shows reduction which has a direct impact on economic efficiency is common in the shipping company management.In this paper,choose the Asia-Europe X route of M shipping company as the object of study,describes the impact of high booking no-shows ratio to business,analyzes the causes of booking no-shows and puts forward the specific solutions to reduce high ratio.The scheme was designed to meet the needs of the customers.The improvement of the program was proved by the evaluation of the program implementation effect,which could help M shipping company to improve vessel utilization,improve customer satisfaction and save cost.Through the study of booking no-shows ratio reduction,we hope provide reference to other carriers when meet similar issue,then improve the service level,so as to better more reliable service to the customers.
