The precise location of the partial discharge source of electrical equipment can successfully find the point of failure and arrange maintenance strategy.Compared with the single ultrasound and UHF local discharge source localization method, the combined detection method of ultrasonic and UHF has the advantages of high detection sensitivity, high positioning accuracy and fast positioning. The technology can effectively detect the discharge defects in the gas insulated switchgear(GIS)and switchgear, can verify each other to determine the health status of the device. In this paper,a method of local positioning of the discharge source based on the intersection of two vertical high-frequency sensors is proposed. The composition of the detection and positioning system and the workflow of on-site inspection are given.Combined with ultrasonic and UHF detection and positioning to verify the feasibility of the method, and then from ultrasonic,UHF joint substation switchgear and GIS equipment to locate the partial discharge source to verify the advanced nature of the method. The use of ultrasonic,UHF joint detection technology, can effectively find the equipment floating, corona, metal particles and other discharge defects.Between2014 and 2016,a total of 16 power substations in Jiangxi Power Grid were found to be faulty in power generation and five GIS facilities were put in for defects. The application results were good and the accuracy of equipment status evaluation and status maintenance was improved.Meanwhile,Equipment Quality of New(Expanded)Transmission and Substation Project in Jiangxi Power Grid.
