With the global warming and the melting of sea ice,the economic value of the Arctic route has begun to be revealed. In the future, more ships will sail in the high-latitude navigation regions, such as the Arctic.Due to the low temperature in the polar waters,it’ll cause ship icing easily during long-time navigation in low-temperature waters.Considerable amounts of ice may accumulate on the surface of the ship and superstructure, which reduces the stability of the ship and threatens the safety of ships and crews. Therefore,in order to ensure the safety of ship navigation, the forecast of the growth rate and accumulated amount of ship icing accretion is very important. At present, there are relatively few researches in this field in China, and the means for forecasting ice accretion on ships are also relatively backward. The actual operation of ships depends mainly on the calculation method of icing accumulation based on polar rules. This method of calculation doesn’t consider the environmental impact and can’t reflect the real conditions of ship icing accumulation. It is only used as a reference to check the complete stability of the ship.It can’t meet the demand for ship icing accretion forecast in different environments in actual operation.Foreign countries have studied earlier in this field and have a rich theoretical basis for icing accumulation and experimental data. However, foreign traditional icing accretion models were developed for the specific ship, which can’t meet the demand for icing accretion forecast for different ships. In order to solve the above problems, this paper mainly finish the following research work:1.Learned and analyzed and compared the similarities and differences of ship ice accretion models at home and abroad, influencing parameters, applicable ship types and applicable scope, and laid the theoretical foundation for further research on polar ice accumulation model in the next step.2.By analyzing different existing ice accumulation models and combining the characteristics of seawater droplets, the existing ice accumulation model is refined.Specifically, the formula for the average waterborne foam volume per minute of the grid containing the volume of wind droplets and sea spray droplets is introduced. On this basis, the icing coefficient is calculated and the formula will be able to more accurately predict the weight and distribution of ice accretion.3.Based on MATLAB R2014 a,a program for calculating the icing of polar ships was developed. The parameters of the hull form were input, and the hull mesh was divided into the main hull plane grid, the upper grid, and the shaded area grid where seawater droplets could not reach.4.Taking a ship as a case, through the comparison of the program results with the original documents, the rationality and feasibility of the procedure and model in this paper are verified.
