The use of drill bits in orthopedic surgery is very extensive,especially in the repair of human long bone fractures and osteotomies.The human skeleton is a special multi-tissue composite material,which is very different from the nature of metal materials.The thermal conductivity of the bone material is relatively poor,and the heat cannot be conducted in time.Excessive drilling temperature can adversely affect the normal bone tissue activity around the hole.The drilling temperature should be controlled below 47°C during orthopedic surgery.At this temperature,bone tissue necrosis can be guaranteed without bone tissue being burned out.The drill used in clinical surgery for orthopedic surgery is usually a standard twist drill.The cutting edge of such a drill often generates excessive cutting force and cutting temperature during operation.Group drilling is a new type of drill.Through the improvement of standard twist drills and through continuous experiments and production practices,a set of drills suitable for various materials has been formed.It is difficult to machine materials and special Drilling of materials has better cutting performance.However,there is no drill type matching the bone material in the standard group drill.The current domestic and foreign scholars’ research on bone drilling has not involved the group drill-drilling structure and the application of the group drill in orthopedic surgery.In this paper,professional cutting machining finite element simulation software AdvantEdge is used and drilling tests are conducted to explore the drilling force and drilling temperature of the standard group drill in the process of bone drilling.Through comparative analysis of the drilling simulation results and pig femoral drilling test data,the drilling force produced by the group drill in the drilling process is lower than that of the standard twist drill,in which the drilling force is minimum by using the rubber group drill in pig femur drilling test.Drill bit structure has little effect on bone drilling temperature.The feed rate of drill bit is the main factor affecting bone drilling temperature.
