The lane change behavior directly reflects the level of driving skills of driver.Due to the lack of sufficient identification of the traffic information,a large number of novice drivers feel nervous during the process of the lane change. In order to solve this problem, the lane change warning system has gradually been promoted in vehicle active safety systems. The lane change warning system employs sensors to monitor the traffic environment, and an early warning is delivered to driver when there exists a risk of collision with other vehicles during the lane change process. An appropriate warning system should also consider the feelings of the driver while the alarm is being issued. The warning may perturb the conventional operating of the driver and affect driver judgment if the exploited warning system does not conform to the driver characteristics. At present, the domestic lane change warning algorithms are mostly derived from foreign vehicle companies. In terms of the practical effect, the level of drivers' acceptance of the lane change warning system is not high in China. In order to develop an appropriate warning system which could conform to our drivers' driving characteristics, firstly,we should obtain the real lane change behaviors of drivers in our country. Therefore,a real-vehicle driving platform based on a small vehicle is established by carrying the millimeter-wave radar, lane detection sensor,GPS,gyroscope,OBD acquisition equipment and video monitoring system. Then 17 participants, including commercial vehicle drivers, novice drivers and accident-prone drivers, are recruited to implement the actual road driving experiments, and 915 actual lane change data are acquired.By analyzing the lane change data, the main findings are as follows:1.The average duration of the lane change of the commercial vehicle drivers is greater than that of other driver groups, and the standard deviation data of the lane changing time of the commercial vehicle drivers is also significantly greater than that of other driver groups.Compared with other driver groups, the commercial vehicle drivers' lane change duration is longer and the lane change mode is more flexible.During the lane change process, the distance between the host vehicle and the surrounding vehicles is controlled more safely by commercial vehicle drivers. At the same time, there are certain safety risks in the lane change process of the commercial vehicle drivers. The opening rate of the steering lights of the commercial vehicle drivers is lower, and the opening time is later than that of other driver groups.2.The relationship between the duration and the velocity of the lane change process of the accident-prone drivers is contrary to other driver groups. The opening rate of the steering lights of the accident-prone drivers is significantly lower than that of other driver groups, and the turning lights are usually turned on after the lane change process has started. The accident-prone drivers' estimation of the velocity of host vehicle and target vehicle, the relative velocity of the rear vehicle in the target lane and host vehicle are inaccurate during the lane change process, and the forced lane change behaviors with the rapid approaching rear vehicle have occurred several times.3.The mean value of the lane change duration of the novice drivers is slightly smaller than that of other driver groups. The duration of lane changes displayed by the novice drivers are basically similar, hence the standard deviation is also smaller. This indicates that the novice drivers have insufficient driving experience. There is little difference in the lane change behavior under different traffic conditions. And the lane change mode is relatively simple. However, the opening rate of the steering lights of the novice drivers is significantly higher than that of other driver groups. The novice drivers possess some deficiency in estimating the relative position and relative movement between host vehicle and surrounding vehicles.
