As the main body of machining,the turning tool plays such a crucial role in the processing and manufacturing system that whether the cutting tool can be fully but not excessing used is pivotal to reduce the producing cost,thus we need to effectively predict and monitor the lathe tool life.This paper is writing upon the DongFeng ChuKai auto parts producing line which characterizes as the volume-produce and repeated-produce.Apart from what mentioned above,the paper mainly adopted the research technique on the basis of monitoring and predicting the tool life through the spindle current,that is to say,it can achieve the goal of prediction of the tool life without any external sensing equipment but just deal with the spindle current collected by CNC system and alarm.The main research contents are as follows:Firstly,according to the turning processing situation of PF2 front wheel hub,the principle of tool wear failure monitoring has been put forward and the too life experiment scheme of monitoring technology research was designed based on the principle.Secondly,according to the collected spindle current signal,the pre-processing is carried out to obtain the real spindle current data of a certain line.Then,the spindle current signal of the segment is analyzed by time domain analysis,frequency domain analysis and time-frequency domain analysis method.The relationship between the characteristic value of the spindle current signal and the tool wear,that is,the tool life,provides the theoretical basis for the development of tool life prediction software.Thirdly,the structure and development flow of tool life prediction software are expounded,and the realization of main function is introduced.Based on the HNC-8 system,the software development,software development,framework and development tools are used to complete the software development.The software can collect the spindle current signal in real time,and use the spindle current characteristic value to monitor the tool wear,realize the on-line monitoring and forecasting of the life of the turning tool.Finally,the experiment data of PF2 front wheel hub unit of Dongfeng ChuKai are validated.The validity of the tool life prediction technology based on spindle current is further verified by collecting the experimental data of three tools.
