The energy and environmental issues of the twenty-first century are the two decisive issues of human existence.The use of alternative biomass energy will help alleviate these problems.Commercialization of ethanol has been achieved worldwide,but alcohols such as methanol and butanol also have excellent physical and chemical properties and great potential.ABE(Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol),as an intermediate product of biological butanol,can significantly reduce the huge industrial cost,and its potential as alternative fuel attracts more and more attention and research.A single droplet microgravity experimental platform has been constructed successfully,and a repeatable experiment in microgravity environment has been realized with a relatively cheap technology scheme.The single droplet platform is designed independently,including hardware system and software system,in which hardware system and software system cooperate well.The experiments of single droplet combustion include static and dynamic experiments.The experimental results of static experiment show that the ignition delay period of ABE30 is increased compared with D100 pure diesel.And there are a variety of modes and different degrees of micro-explosion in ABE30.The ignition delay period of B100 pure butanol was slightly shorter than ABE100,but the properties of B100 and ABE100 are similar in general.ABE components in mixture can lengthen the ignition delay period,but the effect of ABE component proportion on the length of droplet suspension time at different stages will change.From ABE10 to ABE30 suspension time increases with the rise of ABE component,and it is shortened with the increase of the ABE component from ABE70 to ABE90 stage.The droplet suspension time is shorter in the vicinity of ABE50.In the range from ABE30 to ABE70,there is strong micro-explosions inside the droplet.The dynamic single droplet experiment shows that the soot formation of D100 is characterised by spherical soot shell,and ABE can effectively inhibit the formation of soot.The ABE volume ratio of 50% can promote the micro-explosion to the strongest extent.The combustion rate constant increases with the rise of the proportion of ABE components.ABE has good low emission potential and can promote burning,which is a good biomass alternative fuel.
