Concrete Face Rockfill Dam(CFRD)has become a common type of dam in Qinghai province because of its high construction pace, stable operation, convenient maintenance and fewer limits to different terrain conditions.Reservoir freezes easily and lasts for a long time due to the low tempreture in alpine area. The ice sheet will expand and there is ice expansive force on the hydraulic structure for the tempreture would rise a lot in a short time in alpine area. Many studies on the negative influences of the ice expansive force on aqueducts and lock chambers have been done by international and domestic academics. This is the first time to do a research for the influence of the ice expansive force on CFRD in alpine area, which the hating rate is so high. This paper has introduced the constitutive models and the finite element method of ice.A i has been done by simulation on the regulation of ice expansive force of ice sheet on reservior. This paper has summarized the development history and introduced the constitutive models and special boundaries of CFRD also.A projecet applied for CFRD simulation has been writed by Ansys Parameter Design Language to do system analysis on CFRD in construction time and operating period.Besides, the effect to the rule of stress-strain of CFRD on the ice expansive force on CFRD has been simulated at last. The result shows that,(i)the simulation result accord with the general rule of Stress-Strain of CFRD;(ii)the ice expansive force lies in the top 15 cm of the ice sheet, the maximum ice expansive force lies on the surface of ice cover and the maximum is260KPa;(iii)the maximum ice expansive force in this area has very little influence on Strain of CFRD and on stress of rockfill;(iiii)it is need to pay attention that the tensile stress on concrete face is larger where there is ice expansive force.
