In the automotive industry,automotive panel die plays an important role,its surface quality affects the processing quality of car cover directly.To promote the development of automobile mold industry and make it better to meet the needs of life and production,it has important practical significance to carry out the research of the automotive panel die polishing.Considering the morphology characteristics of automotive panel die,the most common polishing methods are manual polishing and automatic polishing.However,large-scale automatic polishing machine is complex、expensive and had a limited applications.While manual polishing is inefficient and labor-intensive.Therefore,the paper analyzed the influence rule of the polishing track to surface roughness on the basis of the preliminary studies of the floating semi-automatic polishing mechanism,and these studies have significance on reducing polishing costs and labor intensity.This paper analyzed the development of domestic and overseas mold industry and the existing mold polishing methods on the base of consulting the former research.The thesis discussed the surface features of car cover mold,researched the polishing processes applied to different types of surface,then analyzed the traditional linear reciprocating and line-cross polishing mode.Then,the paper designed the floating three discs polishing mode and two forms of polishing motion of-the three discs.Besides,the abrasive morphology of abrasive surface was analyzed,and the mathematical model of the grinding-discs surface was established,then the trajectory equations of linear reciprocating motion,line-cross movement and three discs floating spiral motion were derived.The polishing processes of different polishing track were studied with the simulation analysis by mathematical analysis software Matlab,in this process,the polishing effect of traditional linear reciprocating,line-cross polishing and three discs floating polishing methods were compared.Further,the paper analyzed the influence of some parameters on surface roughness,such as the size of the abrasive,polishing velocity,grinding pressure,grinding swing angle,etc.Simulation results showed that floating polishing achieved a better surface quality relative than the linear reciprocating polishing and line-cross polishing.Therefore,the floating polishing motion is more suitable for large automotive panel die polishing.Finally,the polishing experiment was carried out with the floating polished prototype machine,and the experiment results well meet the simulation data and further proved the reliability of the simulation.By the simulation analysis of polishing tracks,the paper optimized the floating polishing parameters,provided the reliable simulation and experimental data to the future designing and application of automotive panel die polishing.As a result,this study established a well foundation for further study.
