Stiffened plate is an essential part of the ship structure, has diverse failure form and its ultimate strength is directly related to the safety of the ship. With the Marine shipping, the stiffened plate will inevitably damage, such as stiffener's web cracking and large permanent deformation. In history,a number of plate frame continuous collapse accidents happened by the local damage of stiffened plate. Therefore it is need to study the ultimate strength of the stiffened plate with damage.Based on the senior CSR buckling analysis method, through the finite element software ABAQUS,this article study the ultimate strength of the stiffened plate with damage. The main works is as follows:(1)The paper studies the finite element modeling method of the stiffened plate with intact or damage, including material property, boundary condition, mesh generation, load condition and so on.(2)It is analyzed how that damage patterms, position and extent of the damage influences the stiffened plate's ultimate strength.(3)For a VLCC oil tanker's stiffened plates of the cargo regions and 20 different types of stiffened plate, introducing two damage patterns, including permanent deformation and stiffener web weld cracking, calculating and comparing the ultimate capacity of intact and damage stiffened plate.(4)This article determines the buckling strength assessment method of stiffened plates with damage, and assesses the buckling strength of damage stiffened plates of the VLCC oil tanker's cargo regions. As a result, under different damage patterns or conditions, the ultimate capacity of stiffened plates hao come down with varying degrees;with the buckling strength assessment,it shows that the damage stiffened plate of an oil tanker still has enough buckling strength to bear load.
