The optical design methods for extended light source was studied in this article,on the basis of the theory of étendue conservation and the edge-ray principle in nonimaging optics,the étendue of each sub-surface can be calculated by dividing the optical surface into multiple sub-surface(or PinHole)and using the all-digital optical tracking algorithm,and then the design of multi-freeform surface can be used to control the distribution of the étendue of each sub-surface on the optical surface.Through the methods studied in this article,the width and direction of the out-light cone angle of the sub-surface on the optical surface can be controlled with high precision,which can be used for the design of high efficiency collimation system and the optical design of illumination products with high optical precision requirements.Based on the methods,a bicycle headlight meets the German E-Mark standard has been designed in this article.The specific contents are as followed:1.The optical surface was divided into multiple sub-surface,and the Matlab ray tracing algorithm program was programmed to study the étendue of each sub-surface and the width and direction of the in-light and out-light cone angles.Because of the study of optical lenses or curved surfaces composed of multiple curved surfaces,we used the former optical surface as a secondary light source and used the out-light cone information of the previous surface to calculate the étendue characteristics of the current optical sub-surface,therefore,this method was called the “secondary light source surface method” in this article;2.Based on the above tools,a design method based on illuminance feedback method to control the width and direction of the out-light cone angle on out-light surface of optical lenses;3.Based on the above methods,a high efficiency collimation system was designed;4.Based on the above methods,a bicycle headlight that meets the German E-Mark standard had also been designed in this article.After simulation,each optical index exceeded 120% of the E-mark regulations,which proved the certain practical application value of the design methods in this article.
