As the domestic leisure and entertainment needs increase, the role of the museum has gradually transformed from a traditional exhibition and non-formal education place to a diverse social and cultural institution. From the perspective of social responsibility, the museum as a special medium has been given the responsibility of preserving the collective memory of the society and building individual culture identity. However, from the perspective of audience experience, the relationship between the museum and the audience is different with that between the constructor and the passive recipient of the discourse system. On the contrary, the audience should be an active cultural consumer, visiting the museum to gain individual value and identity. This study analyzes the audience's behavior and needs from the perspective of environmental design to enhance the audience's visit experience.Based on the theory of environmental atmosphere and its basic SOR(stimulus-organism-reaction)model,this paper studies the emotional and behavior response under environmental factors(such as display way, display density and decorative elements)in the point of environmental design. The paper combined with theoretical research and case studies to establish a framework for museum audience research. In terms of research methods, the questionnaire survey and the non-intervention observation are combined to study the influence of the museum display environment on the audience experience.Using Microsoft Excel to analyze and visualize the data statistically, this paper summarize the impact of various environmental factors on the audience's response, and compare the differences in responses of different motivations, genders, and ages. Finally, based on the research results and case studies, some conclusions and suggestions for exhibition design are put forward.
