Riparian soil is a major component of river ecosystems, because hydropower development strongly interferes with the riparian zone of natural rivers and changes the habitat of the river basin,it will cause changes in river hydrological conditions. In order to fully understand the impact of hydropower development on the riparian soil, sample plots were set up on the banks of the village brook in the headwaters of the Jiulong River to conduct soil collection and herb investigations.Through the study of soil physico-chemical properties, environmental factors, and herbaceous plants with different riparian zones, the spatial variability of soil physico-chemical properties and diversity of herbaceous plants in riparian after hydropower development were explored, and the recovery, management, and riparian soils were discussed.Plant diversity and sustainable development provide the theoretical basis.:(1)The range of soil bulk density was 1.47-1.68 g cm-33 in the riparian zone of Dicun River, the moisture content was 24.5%-40%.The pH of soil was the range of4.93-6.02.It was generally acidic. The available potassium content of soil varied from59.81 mg kg-1 to 249.76 mg kg-1.The available phosphorus content ranged from64.27 mg kg-1 to 159.63 mg kg-1.The nitrate nitrogen content was low and the minimum was 0.37 mg kg-1,the maximum was 0.97 mg kg-1,the ammonia nitrogen content ranged from 167.23 mg kg-1 to 193.12 mg kg-1.The soil organic matter content ranged from 29.68 g kg-1 to 77.92 g kg-1.(2)There were significant differences in soil organic matter content along different river sections along the river, but there was no significant difference in other physical and chemical factors.Different types of plots had different effects on soil physical and chemical properties. The available phosphorus and organic matter content of forest land was significantly higher than that of other types of land.In HL section, the available phosphorus content of residential land was significantly higher than that of forest land and construction land.In the longitudinal direction of the river, the soil pH,available potassium, available phosphorus, nitrate nitrogen and organic matter content were significantly different.(3)There was a significant correlation between soil physical and chemical properties and environmental factors, but no significant difference between the physical and chemical properties of the upper and lower layers of the soil. The physical and chemical properties of the soil were related to the location, elevation and sediment type of the plot. The variance analysis of soil physicochemical properties along the riparian zone showed that different riparian sections affected the migration and transformation of nutrients in the riparian soil, and there were significant differences between soil physicochemical properties in different riparian plots.(4)Hydropower development had a large spatial variability in soil moisture content in the riparian zone.Dam construction was one of the important factors that change the physical and chemical properties of the soil. However, the physical and chemical properties of the riparian soil were also affected by other conditions.Hydropower development had mainly changed the environmental factors around the riparian zone, the riparian habitat under natural conditions, and indirectly affected the migration of nutrients in the riparian zone.(5)The development of hydropower had a significant impact on the species richness of herbaceous plants on the riparian zone. The species richness showed that the upstream of the dam was higher than that of the downstream of the dam.The soil physical and chemical properties which affected the herbaceous plants mostly were the soil moisture content. Therefore, the diversity of herbs could be improved while the soil moisture content significantly increased.
