With the globalization and integration of world economy,the international shipping market demands more and more big capacity of sea transportation.Under this background,large and extra large vessels are more favored by major shipping companies for their economic efficiency.Up to date,it has become a trend to use the vessel as large as possible.But the large vessel brings a hard difficulty of shaft alignment as its shafting stiffness and hull flexibility increase.A undesirable alignment will result in great harm to shafting,and even cause damage of bearing and sealing.So,it is very important to choose the shafting arrangement plan for the large and very large vessels in the early period of a project.Based on the project of a very large vessel,the work of this thesis includes a computer simulation to the shafting arrangement plan with application of the Nauticus Machinery Software of DNV Class.The hull deflections for various draft conditions have been obtained from finite element analysis,and an optimized shafting arrangement plan has been achieved.This arrangement plan has been applied for the actual vessel and provides a practical method for large vessel shafting design.
