| Urban open spaces are an important outdoor spaces for residents’ daily life and social public use. Therefore, the environment of urban open spaces, especially the sound environment,is particularly important.Musical sound,as a typical source of sound environment in urban open spaces, has both the characteristics of vocal music and environmental acoustics, and is an important link in the study of sound landscape. However, there are few studies on the influence of music sound on crowd behaviours. In recent years, although a series of studies on the sound environment of urban open spacess have made great progress, the important factor of crowd behaviours are often neglected. Therefore, this paper takes crowd behaviours as a starting point, and analyses the influence of music sound of urban open spaces on the movement and non-movement behaviours. In terms of experimental design and method of crowd behaviours, two urban public squares were selected as the research sites. At the same time, according to the characteristics of the movement and non-movement behaviours of the crowd in the urban public squares, the research area and time were further determined. On this basis, reasonable measuring instruments and analysis software were selected to investigate the movement behaviours(including passing by behaviours, walking around behaviours)and non-movement behaviours(including sitting behaviours, standing behaviours)of the crowd in urban public square objectively. This paper first studied the influence of music sound on the movement behaviours of crowd. In terms of the proportion of movement behaviours of crowd, the musical sounds of different styles and tempos had no significant effect on the proportion of movement behaviours.Under the influence of different styles and tempos background music sound sources, the average length of crowd passing by behaviours’ paths were smaller than the average value without music. In addition, when the background music of different styles and tempos existed, there was no significant difference between the average speed of passing by behaviours in the square and the sound without background music. The study also found that when the background music of different tempos existed, the area and perimeter of crowd walking around behaviours paths were significantly different, and the average time of crowd walking around behaviours were also significantly different.Secondly, this paper studied the influence of music sound on the non-movement behaviours of people. In terms of the proportion of non-movement behaviours, different styles and tempos of music had no significant effect on the proportion of non-movement behaviours. The study found that when the background music was classical and jazz, the average time of crowd sitting behaviours prolonged, while when the background music was rock music, the average time of crowd sitting behaviours decreased. When classical music existed, with the increase of distance from the sound source of background music, crowd density of sitting behaviours showed a linear decreasing trend. The study also found that,in addition to 60 bpm rock and roll, the presence of other styles and tempo of music sound sources reduced the time of crowd standing behaviours in the square. In addition, whether there was music or no music, the number of standing behaviours was not related to the distance from the source of the background music. |
