Vehicle thermal management coordinates the heat distribution between the power train system(Engine, motor, battery pack)and vehicle level.A comprehensive approach is adopted to balance the heat transfer of each system, enabling mutual utilization and operation within their optimum temperature range. This will have an energy saving effect on the vehicle improving safety and driving comfort. In this paper the design and research method for a PHEV thermal management and control system are introduced.Based on the characteristics of the whole thermal management system of a PHEV,the influence of the control strategy on the thermal efficiency and energy consumption of the vehicle is studied. This paper takes the thermal management system of a PHEV as the research object.According to the battery, motor and engine temperature characteristics the design requirements of the thermal management system for a hybrid electric vehicle were established, the following analysis was carried out.First, the research status of vehicle thermal management was analyzed, and the existing problems of hybrid electric vehicle thermal management system highlighted.Further study of the vehicle thermal management system was analyzed against the vehicle design configuration requirements. This enabled an approximate preliminary calculation to determine the hybrid electric vehicle thermal management technology scheme at an early stage. In parallel.with the use of simulation software for the relevant demonstration provide support of parts selection for the future.Secondly, using Siemens Amesim simulation software to undertake relevant simulation calculations on batteries and motors of PHEV to obtain the thermal demand parameters under various operational working conditions.Meanwhile, radiator, water pump and system flow demand are verified according to requirements.Simulation verifies the rationality of system design parameters and component selection.Based on this, the Driving heating control strategy and cooling control has been developed, while the heating control strategy and cooling control strategy in Charging has been developed as well;Thermal management system hardware and software design and debugging has been done.According to analysis the Summer and winter road test confirms the result of the thermal management system, verifying the heat preservation of the battery pack, charge / discharge, motor electric drive cooling performance and the engine cooling performance meets the design requirement;Meantime basic appraisal has been done for the heating of driving and charging performance to determine the thermal management system meets the design goal for implementation, and the Thermal management system has achieved required consumption reduction which improves vehicle efficiency.
