Diesel engines are widely used in many applications,such as transportation,mining equipment,and agriculture machinery due to their high-energy conversion and economic fuel consumption.However,diesel engines contribute to environmental pollution,with nitrogen oxides?NOx?,particulate matter?PM?,hydrocarbon?HC?and carbon monoxide?CO?as the main pollutants from exhaust gases.Under the dual pressures of the increasingly scarce fossil fuels and the increasingly strengthened exhaust emissions regulations,it is more important to find renewable energy sources.Biodiesel is one of the alternative fuels with a potential to solve the environmental and energy concerns in the transport sector.Water in diesel emulsions has a potential to reduce NOx and PM emission simultaneously,which having a good environmental protection benefit.In this paper,using the technology of bio-emulsified diesel to prepare various bio-emulsified diesel by blending biodiesel?from natural fat and waste cooking oil?,emulsifier,water,butanol and diesel,then applying them to diesel engine in reducing emissions and saving the consumption of fossil fuels.Based on the electronically controlled high pressure common rail diesel engine,this paper has investigated the influences of different blending ratios of bio-emulsified diesel on diesel engine performances under the diesel engine load characteristics test,ESC steady-state cycle test and marine engine propulsion performance test.The results of load characteristics test showed that EB10 has the lowest BSFC and with the increasing of blending rate,the economic deterioration of bio-emulsified diesel is worse.The brake power of bio-emulsified diesel has reduced as a certain extent compared to diesel,and the brake power of EB10,EB15 and EB20 were reduced by 1.88%,3.97%and 4.92%in full load,respectively.Three kinds of bio-emulsified diesel can significantly reduce NOx emission and PM emission simultaneously.The CO emission of bio-emulsified diesel was slightly increased at low loads and high loads,but the total emission was lower,and the CO2 emission was basically close to diesel.The HC emission of EB10 and EB20 were slightly higher than that of diesel in the middle and high loads,but the HC emission of EB15was lower than that of diesel in all loads.The research on the ESC steady-state cycle test showed that EB10's BSFC was reduced by 0.17%compared to diesel,but the BSFCs of EB15and EB20 were increased by 1.30%and 1.30%,respectively.The NOx emissions of bio-emulsified diesel EB10,EB15 and EB20 were reduced by2.78%,6.60%and 14.55%,respectively.After using the SCR optimal strategy,the NOx emissions of all kinds of fuels were below 2.0 g/kWh,meeting the National V stage emission standards.The weighted smoke values of B100,EB10,EB15 and EB20 were reduced by 56.42%,38.55%,52.51%and 65.92%respectively.The HC emissions of EB10,EB15 and EB20 were increased by 10.64%,12.76%and 17.02%respectively,while CO emissions decreased by 15.38%,15.38%and 12.82%respectively.The findings of marine engine propulsion performance test revealed that the BSFC of EB10 was about 1.65%lower than that of diesel and its economy was the best,while the BSFCs of EB15,EB20 and B100 were reduced by 1.46%,5.34%and 9.65%respectively.The brake power of EB10,EB15,EB20 and B100 in each operating point of the propulsion characteristics test were reduced by a certain extent,the greater the blending ratio,the more the reduction.The NOx emissions of EB10,EB15and EB20 decreased by 12.03%,15.17%and 16.78%compared to that of diesel,respectively.While the NOx emission was significantly reduced after using the SCR optimal strategy,all of which were below 2.0 g/kWh,meeting the Tier?emission standards.The weighted smoke values of EB10,EB15 and EB20 decreased by 48.88%,66.48%and 76.82%compared with that of diesel,respectively,and the CO emissions of them were basically the same as diesel,but the HC emissions were slightly higher than of diesel.In terms of economy,dynamic performance and environmental protection,EB10 was the best choice of diesel alternative fuel among the three bio-emulsified diesel,can not only ensure the stable operation of diesel engine,also save fossil fuels and reduce the pollutant emissions,such as NOx and smoke carbon.The wide use of bio-emulsified diesel in automotive and marine diesel engine is of far-reaching significance.
