Current source converter has the advantages of strong robustness, short circuit protection ability and strong fault traversal ability. With the emergence of high switching frequency reverse-blocking device RB-IGBT,PWM current source converters can be designed much smaller and lighter. Thus the drawbacks of traditional current source converters, such as low switching frequency, large and expensive passive devices and slow dynamic response, can be significantly improved. In this way,the current source converters are likely to achieve similar or better performances compared with voltage source converters. In this paper, the RB-IGBT device based high switching frequency PWM current source converter is applied to the doubly fed wind power system.First, the system topology and modulation strategy are systematically analyzed. Then, the converter parameters design methods are detailed proposed to make the converter smaller and lighter.Based on the modeling of the system, the minimum DC bus current control strategy and the calculation method of various system-operating points are proposed. In addition, the small signal model is proposed according to the state space equation of the system.Based on this, the detailed design method of controller parameters is proposed, which provides the system with excellent dynamic performance. Finally, this paper verifies the validity of the system structure, converter parameters design method, control strategy and controller design method through simulation and hardware in-loop experiments.
