With the rapid development of the new energy vehicles,the electric vehicles(EVs)feature safe,efficient,energy-saving and environmentally friendly pure have been favored by the government and automobile manufacturers.In recent year,owing to the characteristics of the low cost and environmentally friendly,the Hybrid permanent magnet(PM)motor has been widely recognized and valued by the experts and scholars in the EV field.However,due to the 90 degree electrical angle difference between the dq-axes,the PM torque and reluctance torque of the motor can not reach the maximum at the same current angle.This always leads to the low PM utilization and material/performance ratio.In this paper,an asymmetric compound magnetic circuit hybrid permanent magnet motor(HPMM)(ACMC-HPMM)is proposed.The motor not only inherits the low cost advantages of the traditional rare earth permanent magnet motor,but also improves the PM utilization and obtain high torque output capacity.The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly,the development of EVs and the status rare earth permanent magnet(REPM)material are described.The research status of the HPMM and torque improving methods at present domestic and overseas are analyzed.On this basis,a symmetrical compound magnetic circuit hybrid permanent magnet motor(SCMCHPMM)is studied.The basic structure of the motor is analyzed,and the power equation of the motor is deduced.In addition,the initial design of the motor is given,and the pole-slot ratio and winding connection of the motor are determined.Secondly,the theory of the torque performance enhancement are discussed.The concept of the maximum torque approaching is applied into the SCMC-HPMM,and an ACMC-HPMM is proposed.Based on the finite element method,the relationships between the torque characteristics and design parameters are studied.Moreover,the ACMC-HPMM is optimized by adopting the combination of three optimization methods including the sensitivity analysis,multi-objective optimization and parametric scanning.Then,the electromagnetic performances of the SCMC-HPMM and ACMCHPMM are analyzed,including air gap flux density,no-load back EMF,PM flux line,magnetic field distribution and inductance characteristics.In addition,the frozen permeability method is used to separate the torque produced by the two motors,and the torque performances of the ACMC-HPMM and SCMC-HPMM are discussed in detailed.Finally,the prototype of the ACMC-HPMM is manufactured and the experimental platform is set up.The no-load,steady-state characteristics and dynamic performances of the prototype are tested.The feasibility and rationality of the motor structure and design theory are verified.
