With the development of seamanships in China,we pay more attention to the economy of ships.The water cooling system of ships consumes accountable power,thereafter,plays an important roles in the initial investment and cost of ship powerplant.However,sea water pump of central cooling water system exists huge energy waste:the design of sea water pump is based on the maximum capacity to ensure main engine is cooled enough at full load and the maximum sea water temperature.It is worth to study how to adjust sea water and fresh water capacity when ship is not at full load to aim to decrease energy consumption.This study is based on shipbuilding product 22000 m~3LPG carrier of Jiang nan shipyard,designs the system including pipes,valves,pumps,equipment selection,heat balance calculation and so on according to specification and class rules.Then it analyses the characteristic of pipe,resistance losses and capacity distribution of series¶llel connection.Then utilize energy saving system by change frequency to adjust sea water capacity according to main engine load and sea water temperature to make sea water pump not pump excess capacity,save the energy,decrease the cost.This study puts forward a procedure of design and methodology for variable water cooling system for ships,provides a basis for improvement of relevant design procedure and some reference for energy saving of water cooling system for ships.
